Bellwright, the game best described as the bastard child of Mount & Blade and Medieval Dynasty. It’s a survival game with a unique, settlement-building aspect to it. Currently sitting at “Mostly Positive” rating on Steam, and a fairly large player base for an early access title, it’s no wonder that people would want to look up guides for it.
And with what we said a bit earlier about how it is a combination of Mount & Blade and Medieval Dynasty and settlement-building, it’s no wonder that you need to hire villagers, among other NPCs to your cause. This guide will explain how to do this with villagers.
How To Hire A Villager In Bellwright
Bellwright Villagers
You need as many villagers as you can possibly get since this is partly a strategy game.
Remember back in Warcraft 3 how you had your villagers gather gold and wood? – Well that’s the same for Bellwright. You need your villagers to work and get you resources so that you can expand more and more.
How to Hire
There are many types of villagers you can hire, and some specialized roles can only be acquired on certain parts of the map, such as Apprentice Laborers being only found in the southern areas.

You will need to build a relationship and earn renown in order to hire Villagers from different settlements, towns, and villages that already exist.
Once you come across someone you can hire and talk with them, you’ll be presented with a screen of their stats.
How good they are with certain jobs and weapons, as well as how much trust and renown you need for them to join, as seen below:

Once hired, they will follow you and then you can assign a job to them as seen below:

They can be workers, guards, or companions for now – and you need to carefully evaluate their strengths and weakness in order to properly use them to their full capabilities!
