Making your Pals… oops, wrong game – I mean villagers learn appropriate skills and abilities is a part of any settlement-building exercise, and the more they know – the better they are. What’s amazing is that in Bellwright, skill books are actual “books” that villagers have to read in order to get a better understanding of how their skill works in order to improve.
So, how do you make them learn? Re-education (Through Labor) – Just kidding (that’s a banger of a song by Rise Against.
How To Use Skill Books In Bellwright
Skill Books and Their Purpose
Skill books are usually used to learn a skill. Duh, right? Well, it usually is as simple as that – but in how many games do the “Users” of those skill books actually read them, instead of the Book simply disappearing in thin air and a notification like “Cooking Lvl: 19 Learned” popping up?
Bellwright says hell no to that, and it actually requires your villagers to “Learn” by reading through this foreign object called a book. It requires time, which coincides with the philosophy this game seems to adopt: Be as grindy as possible.
Of course, if that’s the vision the devs have, who are we to argue that they are in the wrong? But enough about that:
- You give Skill Books to Villagers and you can use some yourself
- Villagers/Player can boost their relevant skills by reading them
How to Make Villagers Learn
Step 1: Give them the book
Go to a villager and talk to them. Once you do, you’ll need to click on “Inventory” And Drag the book over from your own inventory to theirs as shown in the images below:

Step 2: Get them to start learning
Once you give them the book, you’ll need to go over into their “Attributes” menu and find the relevant skill.

If they can advance that skill, you’ll be able to click on the square next to the skills name as shown in the image, and then they’ll start learning it, granting experience for that skill without actually “doing” what the skill requires (E.G. – making food for Cooking).
I hope this guide helped you figure out how you can use skill books in Bellwright. Stay tuned for more content, gamers!
